Here are some contests and literary magazines you can submit your poetry and short stories to. The age range and popularity of each contest varies.

The important thing to remember when it comes to submitting your work is that you should never be discouraged. Being a writer, being an artist, means that you’ll have to keep trying no matter what. Don’t take rejection as a sign that your writing is bad or that you should stop. Always look to improve and continue sharing your work.
